From Waste to Wear – Sustainable Comfort Reimagined

Let’s Get Wasted—In the Best Way! Recycle Your Textiles.

W8ASTED began with a simple question: how can we transform our textile waste into something meaningful? From that seed, the W8ASTED sock was born—crafted from production scraps, it’s our answer to minimizing waste and maximizing impact. Each pair represents a shift in thinking, where every discarded fabric finds new purpose, conserving resources and lowering our environmental footprint.

In 2024, we diverted 10,000 pounds of fabric remnants—with the help of community contributions—from landfills. Through innovative textile-to-textile recycling, we transformed these remnants into 250 new pairs of socks, reducing waste and closing the loop on textile use.

Walk with us as we take each step toward a cleaner planet.

In addition to producing the socks, we’ve also kept some of the yarn made from this waste for future projects. The leftover material from the sock project will go into a phase two initiative we’re working on developing fabric made from our own waste. This process will take some time, but we’re excited about
the potential to create sustainable, circular materials for future collections.

How W8ASTED Socks Are Made

Gathering & Sorting

We start by collecting leftover fabric scraps from our production, along with contributions from our local community. These pieces are carefully sorted to ensure quality, minimizing any excess waste along the way.

Broken Down Fibers

The sorted fabric scraps are broken down into a material known as ‘shoddy’—a blend of fibers that can be used as the foundation for our recycling process. This step transforms scraps into a workable form, ready for the next stage.

Processed into Fiber Sliver

Next, the shoddy is refined into fiber sliver, a smooth, continuous strand that will serve as the raw material for spinning. This process uses minimal water and energy, helping to keep the environmental footprint of each sock as low as possible.

Re-Spun into New Yarn

The fiber sliver is then re-spun into brand-new, high-quality yarn. This step gives our recycled materials new life, turning once-discarded scraps into durable, comfortable, and sustainable yarn for the W8ASTED sock.

Knitting the Socks

Finally, our re-spun yarn is knitted into the W8ASTED sock itself. Designed with purpose, each sock represents a full circle—from waste to wearable—demonstrating the power of sustainable fashion and our commitment to reducing waste.

Why Socks?

Why start with socks? Because they’re a universal essential—something we all use regularly and often need more of. By creating a product everyone can benefit from, we wanted to make sustainability easy, accessible, and woven into your daily life. W8ASTED socks are just the beginning.

In Phase 2, our vision grows. We’re working on transforming textile waste into brand-new fabric, creating pieces that help us move away from using new materials altogether. With this next step, we’re pushing closer to a future where our collections are crafted from what’s already here—maximizing impact and minimizing waste. W8ASTED is our start, but it’s just one step on our journey to fully circular fashion.

FAQ

W8AST3D socks are made from an innovative blend of recycled bamboo, organic cotton, RWS-certified merino wool, tencel, nylon, and spandex—materials that are carefully selected for their durability, comfort, and sustainability. These fibers are sourced from textile waste, including scraps from our own production and fabric remnants from our local community. The materials are broken down, processed into fiber, and re-spun into new yarn, creating durable and eco-friendly socks that you can feel good about wearing.

Pre-orders for W8AST3D socks are expected to ship by NOV 23rd, 2024. We’re working hard to produce each pair with care and precision to make sure they meet our high standards for quality and sustainability. We’ll send you an email with tracking information once your socks are on their way!

To keep your W8AST3D socks in tip-top shape, we recommend machine wash cold, no bleach, tumble dry low.

W8ASTED is a part of our commitment to circular fashion. By using textile waste to create new products, we’re reducing the need for new raw materials, which helps conserve resources, reduce waste, and lower our carbon footprint. It’s fashion with a purpose—recycling, reusing, and reducing the impact on our planet.

Socks are a universal item that everyone uses—an everyday essential. By starting with something familiar, we wanted to prove that sustainability can be incorporated into even the most basic products. W8ASTED socks are just Phase 1 of our journey; in Phase 2, we aim to create entirely new fabrics from recycled materials, moving closer to a future where we don't rely on new fabric at all.

Yes! W8ASTED socks are just the beginning. In the future, we plan to expand our recycled textile offerings to include more garments, eventually aiming to create entire collections using repurposed fabric. Our goal is to reduce our reliance on new fabric and close the loop on textile waste entirely.
