W8STED started with a simple question: What if our textile waste could become something meaningful? That idea sparked the creation of the W8STED sock, made entirely from production scraps. It is our way of turning waste into something with purpose.
Every pair is more than just a sock. It is a statement. A small but powerful shift in how we treat discarded fabric, giving it new life while using fewer resources and reducing our environmental impact.
In 2024, with the support of our community, we kept 10,000 pounds of fabric out of landfills. Through cutting edge textile to textile recycling, we turned those remnants into 250 new pairs of socks, helping close the loop and reimagine what waste can be.
In addition to producing the socks, we’ve also kept some of the yarn made from this waste for future projects. The leftover material from the sock project will go into a phase two initiative we’re working on developing fabric made from our own waste. This process will take some time, but we’re excited about
the potential to create sustainable, circular materials for future collections.
We begin by gathering leftover fabric scraps from our own production and from local community contributions. Each piece is sorted by hand to ensure quality, reducing any excess waste from the start. The fabric is then broken down into a blend of fibers known as shoddy, forming the raw material for our recycling process.
The blended fibers are refined into what’s called a fiber sliver—a smooth, continuous strand that can be spun into yarn. This stage uses minimal water and energy, helping keep the environmental footprint of each sock as low as possible.
Once the fiber sliver is ready, we spin it into new yarn. Though made from recycled materials, the yarn is high quality, soft, and durable. This step gives new life to what was once discarded, turning textile waste into something functional and beautiful.
Finally, the yarn is knitted into our signature W8STED sock. Each pair is a full-circle transformation—from waste to wearable. Designed with care and intention, these socks are proof that fashion can be both sustainable and impactful.
